Tell me about your “Creative Space”.

My studio most of the times is a mess but I feel if its too clean I’m not being productive enough, I like to have my references all over so if I see something that catches my eye I can just roll with it. I like the spontaneity in my life as well as with my workspace it’s what keeps me creative

You started off as a graffiti artist. Was was it like going from painting walls to canvas?

For me it was a natural transition i loved painting walls but from early on I wanted to do more then just paint walls.  Now I’m finding that I’m mixing what I do on a wall and bringing some of that spontaneity to a piece in the studio and vice versa.

When was the last time you painted a wall?

Last wall I did Was with My boy CODAK from TM he’s a real sick writer who i have always had respect for so it was dope to finally do a production together.

What is a normal day in the life of  Ekundayo?

I don’t think I have normal days although I would like a routine it just doesn’t work like that for me I tend to adjust my schedule depending on what jobs or project I have going on at the time. Most of the day is spent handling commercial work  if I’m not doing that then I’m getting references together or  hustling up more jobs.  It usually takes me till the evening to get my head together enough to stand at my easel during  night i feel real calm and that’s when i get most of my fine art done.

Oil or Acrylic?

Acrylic!

Your artwork seems to tell stories of loss and pain, is it a refection of your own life story?

That’s just something that happens naturally for me  it probably dose have to do with my past, I’m obsessed with illustrating  the beauty in our struggles.

If you weren’t an artist, what would you be doing?

Wood carver without a doubt, i have always wanted to make hand carved furniture

What are you working on now?

The end of the year just got really busy I’m finishing a piece for Think Space Gallery’s five year anniversary show this November then its off to Art Basel were I will be participating in a couple gallery shows as well as painting a wall for Primary Flight with my boy KMNDZ!

Hey my man! How’d you find me??? Cool that you did. I am not doing any art anymore:( I always am itching to do something but I haven’t really done anything since we was in school. remember those days huh. You look good man and your work, your work is like a breath of fresh air and peacefulness to my war torn mind of turmoil. Your work brings me calm when turbulent seas shifted endlessly without reason. Thank you for your art for it really inspires something deep within myself. Hey man, hit me up on facebook anytime I would love to chat with you to see how you got to where you are now. I wish you the best and good luck in all that you do. this world needs you.
    Peace homie
